ATECH Services presents a workshop for teachers, parents, paraprofessionals, speech-language staff, tutors, and other service providers. Come and learn more!
Subjects addressed in this workshop include: How does hearing work (or not)? What are some types and causes of hearing loss? How do I read an audiogram? What is the impact of hearing loss on language and speech development? What are some educational implications of hearing loss? What are some helpful modifications I can make in my teaching? How can I facilitate communication in the classroom? How do hearing aids work and how can I troubleshoot a hearing aid? How do I use and troubleshoot an FM system effectively? What other assistive devices might my student use? How can I create an accessible and welcoming classroom for all of my students?

This workshop is designed as an overview to provide information about students who are blind or visually impaired. It will introduce some aspects of visual impairment and give a well rounded understanding of the abilities and needs of a student with visual impairments in the classroom. Topics to be covered are: Definitions, Implications, Educational Needs, The role of vision professionals, Low vision tools and devices, and orientation to the classroom and school. This session is ideal for special education administrators, classroom teachers and paraprofessionals who are supporting students with vision loss.
